While the bright lights of the PokerGO Studio often shine on the "young guns" of the American circuit, it was a familiar face from the Canadian scene who stole the spotlight for local fans this week. John Krpan, the Oakville, Ontario native with over $1.3 million in career earnings, put on a masterclass in discipline to secure a 5th-place finish in the prestigious PokerGO Cup Event #10.

The $15,000 buy-in tournament, the most expensive and competitive of the series, saw Krpan navigate a minefield of 52 elite runners to lock up a $62,400 score.

Experience Over Ego

In a field packed with GTO wizards and world champions, Krpan relied on his decades of experience at the felt. The Canadian veteran, known for his steady presence in high-stakes rooms from Niagara to Vegas, entered the final table as a dark horse against a lineup that included:

  • Brock Wilson, the eventual series champion.

  • Joe McKeehen, the 2015 WSOP Main Event winner.

  • Andrew Lichtenberger, a titan of the modern era.

Krpan’s run ended just short of the podium, but his ability to outlast 47 other world-class competitors earned him a significant boost to his lifetime live earnings, pushing him further up the Canadian All-Time Money List.

The Final Showdown

Krpan was eliminated during a tense period of short-handed play that saw the chip lead swing wildly. Following his departure, the tournament eventually turned into a duel between Sam Soverel and Andrew "LuckyChewy" Lichtenberger.

Lichtenberger ultimately completed a stunning comeback to take the trophy and the $257,400 top prize. Despite the American victory, Krpan’s deep run serves as a major win for the Canadian poker community, highlighting the persistent talent coming out of the Great White North.
